Had an all-day group of one kid. His father said that he was blue-level, but he was really black-level. We did some trees and i introduced him to the halfpipe, which he dug.
That night i met up with Amy and Scott Carson at the Black Line Tavern at Magic Mountain. Amy was trying to introduce me to one of her coworkers. I stayed for a while, but it was loud and we didn't really connect.

Morning private with a black-level teenager who wanted to ride bumps and trees. In the afternoon, i split Shaun's lesson and took the same kid that i'd had the day before. We did some non-trail tree runs and a lot more halfpipe.

Morning private of two 14-year-old girls who were pretty good blue-level riders except that one of them was less sure on her toe edge. In then afternoon i joined up with trainor Amy Gan and ten other instructors for an exam prep clinic.

Morning group lesson with one 18-year-old. I taught her how to spin and ride in the halfpipe. This is a theme with me. After that Austin and i taught a school group for an hour, then i went home.

All-day with Anna, plus the girl that i'd had the previous morning. We did some gummy thick trees and halfpipe in the morning. Afternoon was mostly halfpipe with just Anna.

Dreary foggy day in the morning, but it cleared up and got really warm during the day. I had a two-hour private in the morning with a kid who really needed help with not twisting completely up on his toe edge. Nothing in the afternoon, so left after 1:30 line-up.

Back to cold and windy, but the halfpipe was pretty nice. George and i rode it for a while between 8:30 and 9:30 line-ups. I had a 10:30 private with a level-2 kid, then a 1:00 private with a level-3ish kid.

Morning request private (the same kid i'd had the day before), then ran an "exam prep" clinic in the afternoon with George, Austin, Izzy, Stefan, and Shannon. It was pretty open-ended—George, Stefan, and Shannon took over parts of it—then we ended up running through the halfpipe a few times.

All-day group lesson with one black-level kid. The terrain was hardpacked and consistent, so we basically rode a lot of different trails.

Due to a lack of instructors, i had to teach the two blue/black-level kids from both sides of the mountain, which were Anna and a kid named Matthew. Anna and i rode from the Clock Tower side over to Jackson Gore in the morning and my front toe-strap broke. Got it hackily replaced in the repair shop, then picked up Matthew and rode all day on hardpack. Dropped off Matthew at Jackson Gore and Anna and i rode back to the Clock Tower side in light blowing snow.

Had a two-hour private with a tentative level threeish woman with her boyfriend tagging along, then taught a group lesson of one blue/black-level teenager in the afternoon. The sun broke through the clouds in the afternoon.

Had my first 8:30 private of the year—a 3-hour lesson with a level-3 girl. In the afternoon i taught a group lesson of one black-level kid.

Started the day with a one-hour private with two level-1 teenage boys, then took the all-day black-level group out, which was Anna and Megan, plus a kid named Luke. Lotsa riding in the park, trees, and bumps.
First game of the second session winter league ultimate, late game. We're White this session. We beat the Red team 38-26. I scored three goals and justmissed a fourth!

I had asked for this day off and it was coded as "OFF" on my schedule up until about a week ago, when a two-hour private appeared. I managed to at least get the morning off, as the private was at 1 o'clock. Turned out to be a famous person—Ian Rapoport. He had to tweet some news on a couple of the chairlift rides.

All-day orange-level lesson. Started with two kids, expanded to three, then four, as Izzy and my lessons were swapping kids back and forth, depending on who was ready for the chairlift.

Morning private with a dad who hadn't snowboarded in 15 years or so. He wore himself out after an hour and a half. I was hoping to bail out after 1:30 line-up, but there was a 14-year-old kid who wanted an upper-level park & pipe lesson, so i had to teach that.

Morning private with a woman who was on her second lesson and had a bit of fear about turning the board downhill. It was a frustrating lesson because i couldn't seem to find the right way to get her to make the body motions that she needed for success. She improved a little, but with the good balance that she had, i wish i could have coaxed a little more riding out of her. Finally managed to get the afternoon off as we had plenty of spare instructors.

All weekday lessons are based out of Jackson Gore now. The wind was howling over the top of the mountain, so no summit lifts were running, including the Quantum Four, which meant that there was no way to get from the Jackson Gore side to the Clock Tower side. I rode over in the morning and had an all-day group of two brothers, one of which was a hgh green-level rider, the other of which was a high blue-level. I felt bad that i wasn't giving as much coaching to the older kid as i was constantly waiting for the younger kid. We started the day with a base run, then took the shuttle over the the Clock Tower side and rode the Black Ridge triple all morning, then slid back over to JG. Another shuttle ride in the afternoon, more of the same riding, then back over to JG at the end of the day. One more shuttle ride for me to get back to the locker room.

Picked up Anna in the morning and rode with her over to Jackson Gore. I was given one more kid, who was a high-green/low-blue level. We took a couple base runs, then Mateo took him and Anna and i went and rode the halfpipe most of the morning. After lunch, Anna and i took a couple more runs with the morning kid since Mateo was teaching a school group for an hour. Once Mateo took the other kid back, Anna and i went back over to the Clock Tower side and rode the park and pipe, took a nice long hot chocolate break, and wore ourselves out.
I was spent from having worked twelve days in a row, but managed to play adequately enough at winter league ultimate. We didn't play particularly well, but beat the yellow team. I had one interception, which i immediately threw into a block.
