Lots of snow.

Walked Bulo along the Clarendon Gorge.

Started with five blue/black kids, but one was a heel-side-only rider (a “power leafer”), so i had three regulars and one new girl. Tons of deep powder and the summit lifts didn’t open until the afternoon.

same three blue/black-level supernova kids today. Still lots of powder and bumps.

Kinda tried to back-line but ended up with one adult all-day lesson—yellow level but i got her on the chairlift after a few runs on the carpet.

Adult morning group of one green-level. No afternoon lesson.

Winter league: Got a D, almost scored a goal, threw a hammer, and threw three push-passes. The first one came out of my hand weird and turfed, but we got the D and i immediately threw another one for a completion. We started slow as usual, dug ourselves a hole, climbed out, but couldn’t get closer than 3 points and lost yet again to the Orange team 39-31.

Took the trash to the transfer station and walked over to Elfin Lake.

Received the latest Kirkus Reviews magazine with my ad in it.

Started the day by realizing that i forgot my phone, then, on the way to Jackson Gore, i completely smashed into a kid by one of the condos. Everyone was fine, even though i literally knocked the snot out of the kid. He had a trail of mucus from his nose after i knocked him to the ground. Shook me up a bit. Ended up running the snow stars magic carpet all morning, then taught three adult beginners in the afternoon—one who was a foot taller than me and huge.

Just the supernova kids today. Pete (instructor) rode along with us.

Last day with the two supernova kids. Lots of runs through the halfpipe, a trip to South Face, bumps and trees.... I’m beat.

12131415161718

Reeeeeeealy didn’t want to teach, but we all had to. I ended up with two high yellow / low green level kids, one of whom was kind of a brat and refused to use his toe edge.

Lots of snow, lifts not running. Andrew and i waited, were sent to catch the bus over to Jackson Gore, bus never showed, so finally got on the lifts and got first tracks down The Plunge. I taught three adult beginners. So much snow that we could barely slide, so i took them up the lift right away. Took the full two hours to make one run. No afternoons, so got to go home.

Bulo could just walk out of the yard if he realized it.

Started out with two of the three total kids lessons today, but i split it with Steven, so we each had one. Mine was a solid green level—lots of laps uner the A/B Quads.

No morning lesson, so rode with Tommy and the black pod clinic in the morning—lots of bumps and halfpipe. Right before lunch i witnessed an 11-year-old skier ski right off the lip of the halfpipe. He crashed hard on the bottom of it and was knocked unconscious. I unbuckled and ran over to him—he started to move, trying to catch his breath. We called Ski Patrol and they arrived and put his head in a neck brace. A bit scary.

In the afternoon i had one green-level adult.

Rode over to Jackson Gore in the morning. Three total lessons between adults and kids and they were handled, so rode back to the Clock Tower side and went home.

Bulo likes to play with neighbor Willow.

Two green-level kids, although one was a very low green and the other was toward the high end. They got along and rode well together and it ended up being an okay day. even if not a whole lot of learning happened.

Winter league playoffs: We were the 8th seed and so played the #1 seed—Chameleon. We came out well and had a four point lead at halftime. They went on a run in the middle of the second half and we were trading points near the end. We tied it up with ten seconds left and they played it into overtime, getting the final goal and winning 34-33. That was our fourth one-point loss. I threw a couple of crappy passes but overall was cutting and handling well, which felt good.

I was scheduled for kids groups at Jackson Gore but was asked if i could take a morning private at the Clock Tower, which i did. One ninth-grade girl first-timer who had good balance, even on frozen-solid ice/snow. Things softened up by noon and i took a couple laps in the halfpipe, then went home.

There were three kids today—two red and one high green. I took the high green. He could ride on blues and even blacks, but slowly. Not a lot of runs over the course of the day, and a few hot cocoa breaks. It was a cold windy day and started snowing in the afternoon, covering the hard pack with soft snow.

Only one kid lesson today and i was the only instructor available since all the others were in clinics. High green level. Nice 12-year-old girl. She bruised her knee so we took a long lunch and talked about books and culture and things.

Morning adult yellow level who was a good skier. He progressed quickly and we took a run down Tuckered Out.

One kid lesson today, zero adult lessons. Rode over to Jackson Gore then back to Clock Tower.

Second week of playoffs at winter league, and we finally won, soundly defeating a short-handed Black team 39-23.

Ever since i’d been away for a few weeks last fal, my stove has stunk like dead mice every time i’ve used it. I finally went in to Rutland and bought a new one and it got delivered today. Considered getting an induction stove, but opted for cheaper—mostly didn’t want to replace all my pots and pans.

Jean Yves and i split the three yellow-level kids today—he with two boys who could almost turn, me with one girl who didn’t like getting on her toe edge.
