Had a 2-hour private with an ER doctor. Nothing in the afternoon. |
Second 2-hour private with the ER doc, then an afternoon IFU lesson with a level-4 girl. If got really cold and windy as the day progressed, so we quit about 15 minutes early. |
Two-hour series private with a 13-year-old girl, then one hour with an adult woman who needed help nailing down her turns. |
Two-hour private at 8:30 with two kids, one who was a level 2, one who was nearly a level 4. A little frustrating, but it seemed to work out. That was followed by the same kid i'd had the day before, except that her friend was added in to the lesson. They were pretty close to the same level. Finally i ran a bumps clinic with Katie helping out in the afternoon. It started snowing hard and was a certified powder day by the time we were done. |
Celeste took Anna & Megan today. I had a 1-hour private over at Jackson Gore first thing. The Solitude lift wasn't running in the morning, so i cut through some trees and some very deep powder to get over to JG. The private was with a 40-year-old man who wanted some tips on improving his riding. After that, i rode down Big Bang and Black Hole, then got let go for the day, so went over to the farm to take some pics. |

LOTS of fresh powder. I dipped into the trees off of Heaven's Gate and got stuck in snow above my knees. Since i had to get back to line-up i unstrapped and hiked (slogged) out. Taught a full-day lesson with one green-level girl who steered with her back foot all day. |
Still excellent powder. Taught a morning group of one adult who was working on perfecting his turns, then had an afternoon private with two brothers, ages 5 and 7, never-evers. They picked it up pretty well. |
Two-hour level 1 private (kid), then two-hour level 1 private (two adults), then a 1-hour private with a green-level adult. The snow was turning to drizzle. |
Rainy rainy day. Started the day by attending Okemo's "loyalty training," which was not as awful as the year before. Initially i had nothing on my schedule for the morning, but then ended up with a 2-hour private with a level-3 kid and a 1-hour private after that. Since i had to run a clinic in the afternoon, the second private gor switched to Connor and i had some lunch, then went out and did a park & pipe clinic with four instructors from Jackson Gore (Wayne, Michael, Nate, and Austin). I was pretty soaked by the end of the day. |
All day with Megan & Anna. They showed up with valentines for me, Celeste, Molly, and Matt. Everything was frozen and awful and most of the day was spent surviving the crappy terrain. I was exhausted by the end of the day. One of those took took this pic of me while they were playing with my phone. |

Two-hour private at 10:30 with a 44-year-old mom who was a pretty good rider, then an hour with Alex, who is learning some park moves, then an afternoon group with one 14-year-old who was also a pretty damn good rider. All of them were regular-stance so i was riding backwards all day. Tiring, especially in the warm, slushy snow.

I was supposed to have a level-1 adult in the morning, but the person never showed, so i helped out for a while (it was busy), then hung out until 1:30 line-up. No lesson for me, so i left early. |
8:30 private with a 5-year-old who was entusiastic, but didn't quite have the body muscle to get very far. He had fun, though. After that i had the first of a 4-day series—two hous with a kid named Javier. Got a lunch break, then had one hour with a blue-level adult and one hour with a level-3 girl.
|
First 7-hour day in a while. Two-hour private with a level-4 kid, two hours with Javier, one hour with a level-3 girl, then two hours with the 5-year-old i'd had the day before. There were about 13,200 guests at Okemo today. Both rental shops sold out, and every rental shop in Ludlow sold out. |
Two-hour private with a very unmotivated 8-year-old, then two hours with Javier in rapidly-softening snow, then an hour break, and finally two hours with a green/blue-level 10-year-old named Adam. |
Two-hour private with a pretty-good level-4 kid, last two hours with Javier, then a break for lunch. I had nothing on my schedule after that, but got put on a level-1 afternoon group lesson with one kid. He was a hockey player and picked up snowboarding fast. First game of Winter League second session, late game. We are the White team and, after trailing all of the first half, we came back and beat the Blue team 35-31. |
Day off. I'd asked for this day off after working 12 days straight over Christmas break. I needed it. Also, it was almost 70° today. |
Didn't have an 8:30 private, but got one when the instructor that it was booked for was late. Level one, but good athletic kid. After that i had a level-3 adult in a morning group lesson, then a 3-hour 3-person private in the afternoon. It was two brothers and a friend, all at about level 2. The younger brother wasn't picking it up as quickly as the other two and was getting very frustrated and angry.
|
All-day group with Megan, Anna, and one other kid, who wasn't quite as skilled but kept up. It started freezing rain in the afternoon and we spent a lot of time lapping the halfpipe. |
Katie asked if i would like the afternoon off and i accepted, so i left after my 2-hour private with a little girl that i'd taught last year at Jackson Gore. Very slushy out today. |
The day began with a pelting mix of sleet and snow, with possibly rain as well. None of the upper-mountain lifts were running, so i took a run up the Black Ridge lift and then a few passes through the halfpipe. On my third run, i got about a foot out! After that i sat in the base lodge until 10 o'clock line-up, collected a show-up pay, then went home for the day. |
I picked up Anna & Megan at Ski Patrol (where their mom works) just after 9:00 and rode with them over to Jackson Gore, since all midweek lessons are going out of the Gore now. There wasn't any other kids to join the lesson, so we rode through the park & pipe all day, bumping through the choppy froth of slushy snow. |
Winter league. This is the first time on "pizza night" that we've had the early game, which started an hour earlier than normal. We started out slow again against the Pink team, but clawed our way back with a good defensive effort in the second half to win 47-39. |
Nice day. Went up to the farm and talked with Kara while she worked for a bit. |
