Ran an all-day rehire training clinic with George, Paula, Stefan, Lindsey, Rob, and Shannon. Photo by Chris Saylor. |
Kinda didn't want to teach but then found out that the only lesson was with Megan and Anna, two kids who came every Monday and can really ride. We spent the whole day riding almost all of the open trails. |
Winter league ultimate. Ankle still hurt. I played terribly, but got a hand-block. We beat the Blue team ("True Blue") 28-25.
|
Turned 53. Stayed inside all day.

First private lesson of the year— two hours with a 9-year old boy who was a solid level 3. In the afternoon i taught a beginner lesson of four adults with two new instructors shadowing the lesson. It started to snow at the end of the day. |
Ran an all-day rehire training clinic with Katherine and Jess. Molly joined us for an hour in the morning, then had to go teach group lessons.
|
Rode with Megan all day, while Molly taught Anna. We rode together for a bunch of the afternoon.

Winter league ultimate. Slow snowy drive all the way there. My ankle still hurt. I played terribly again and we lost to the Black team ("Supermassive Black Hole") 30-22. They were up by 10 at half and only up by 8 at the end, so at least we won the second half. |

Morning show-up pay, then picked up a 2-hour private at 11:30—a level-4 adult. Another show-up pay for the afternoon. |
Taught a morning group lesson (don't remember what level), then opted out of afternoon lessons to rest my foot. Picked up my veggies from the farm. |
Taught a morning group lesson of one level-4 adult, then picked up a split from Rob's afternoon lesson—one level-2 adult.
|
Ran an all-day rehire training clinic with just Ian and Christina. |
Celeste took out Megan and Anna and i taught a level-1 group of two adults—one from Florida, one from Argentina. Opted out of afternoon lessons (there was only one). |
Drove over to Saratoga Springs to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Elizabeth and i split four all-day green-level kids. I ended up with a 7-year-old and a 12-year-old. The 12-year-old was much faster and better, so i had him do a lot of spins and tricks to slow him down. The snow was a lot better than i expected, considering that it had rained then froze over the previous two days. |
I had a morning group of one level-2 adult. Salvatore, who is a ski instructor but is looking to also teach snowboarding, tagged along to shadow the lesson. No afternoon lessons so i took a run with Katie in the accumulating snow, then drove slowly home on snow-packed roads. |
First request private of the year—two hours at 8:30 in a drizzly freezing rain which coated my coat and helmet in a glaze of ice. At 12:30 i checked in at private line-up and asked to be let go for the day, but when i got back to the Wernick House, they needed a snowboarder for a 1-hour private that had been mis-booked as a ski lesson. Pretty good level-2 rider who improved over the course of the hour. THEN i went home. |
Started off the day with a request private with a kid that i had a few times last year. Then i had the all-day level-4 group—three kids who were all barely level 3. It was a frustrating lesson because a couple of the kids seemed to have no idea which way they wanted to ride, but they all improved over the day, so it was okay. |
Powder! It snowed a whole lot more than i expected and i took three runs in the morning in shin-deep powder. Then i had both a morning and afternoon group with two 14-year-old girls who were solid level 4's. |
One-hour request private at 8:30, then an all-day lesson of blue-level kids. I had 6 kids plus a junior instructor in the morning, then just 3 for the afternoon. Beautiful sunny (but cold) day! |
One-hour 8:30 private with a kid that wanted to do jumps and rails, then another day of blue-level kids—four of them this time, two from the day before and two new ones. |
Somewhat frustrating 2-hour private at 8:30 with the same kid that i'd had the day before. Besides the fact that it was brutally cold and windy, he wasn't terribly interested in changing his riding, only of trying to do jumps (which he failed at sometimes because he didn't improve his riding). After that i jumped in on a level-3 lesson with two kids—a brother and sister. After a lunch and warm-up, i got a show-up pay at the afternoon line-up, stuck around for the 2:30 private line-up, then went home. |
Started off the day with a pretty successfull 2-hour level-1 adult private lesson, then had a 3-hour private with a 7-year-old girl who was tearful and cold. We took a lot of breaks and she perked up at the end. I did something in this lesson that i've never done before, which was to give the girl a hug when she was crying (she missed her mom). |
Less cold today. 8:30 2-hour private which started about half an hour late, then two hours with the same girl from the day before. She was in much better spirits today. Had some lunch, then took out three black-level teenagers in an afternoon group lesson. |
Colder again. No 8:30 private, and i was hoping for no lesson, but got put on the blue-level all-day group—three girls in the morning, two for the whole day. We tackled some tree runs to stay out of the wind. |
