When i got up to the Quantum-4 lift i saw that chair 82 was passing around the bullwheel. I waited for a couple of chairs to pass and got to ride up on chair 1. Nice start to the year.

Morning group of two level-2 kids, afternoon group of two level-4 kids.

Hoping for no work today (the 5-day series finally dropped off my schedule after 3 no-shows), but i taught a morning group of two level-1 adults (sisters) which we started at 9:00. At 10:00, another woman joined the class. One of the sisters fell and sprained her wrist, but the two that remained were connecting turns and even doing manuals by noon. In the afternoon, i had one somewhat-unmotivated level 1½ girl.

I was sent over to the Clock Tower side, but since the Quantum-4 lift wasn't loading (ice and wind), i had to take the shuttle to Solitude. Then the Solitude lift kept stopping and i finally slid down through a can't-see-anything fog to the lower meeting area. I had a family from Mexico who were on their second lesson. They all became good sliders and/or turners by the end of the lesson. FINALLY got no afternoon lesson and was very happy to go home after a long break week—12 days straight.

One of the items in the Moss Motoring Challenge of 2017 was "Unicyclist Riding." The Mini is snowed in, but... points!

I took the trash to the transfer station today. On the way there i drove over some gravel in the road. On the way from the transfer station to Evening Song Farm, the low tire pressure light came on. When i was done visiting Kara & Ryan, i had a totally flat tire. A stone had gone right through the tire. Well, almost 58,000 miles on them, not bad.

Drove down to Brattleboro for a doctor's appointment. Had blood taken and got more medicines. After the appointment i drove across the river to a Tire Warehouse in NH and bought four new tires.

No work in the morning. Two level-1 adults in the afternoon.

All-day level 5 lesson. One kid, who turned out to be more of a level 3ish. He had to be talked into taking the lesson by me and his parents and the morning went okay. He was happy at lunch and the afternoon started out fine, then he had a complete meltdown and refused to do anything. He sat in the snow on the side of the trail and wouldn't talk. I finally got him to walk most of the way down Tuckered Out and he strapped in to ride that last bit under the lift into the base area. Two hours–one run. I was exhausted.

Only one morning snowboard lesson at Jackson Gore. I was still worn out from the day before so i asked if i could leave, which they let me do, so i went home at about 10:30.

I was scheduled to take all-day kids over at the Clock Tower side. I assumed that it would be Anna and Megan, but Celeste took Megan and Anna was sick, so i rode with them in the morning. I was having lunch when Rick asked me to jump in on a one-hour school group at 12:30, then, when i was literally walking out the door of the Bungalow, a 2:30 private was booked on one of the snowboarders who were out riding, so i took it—a level 2 kid.

Wayne was scheduled to take the morning level-1 adults but there weren't any, so he went off to take some runs. Turns out there was one young woman who was mis-booked as a ski lesson. I was the only one around, so i took it. Then Thomas and i split a group of 9 level-3 and 4 school group kids.

I was scheduled with a 10:30 2-hour private with a level-3 kid, then a 1-hour private with a level-4 kid. Both kids were barely above level 1. No afternoon lessons.

8:30 level-2 private, then an all-day group of four level-5 kids (plus one level-6 for the morning). In the afternoon, we got over to Sidewinder and found that they'd been blowing snow on it all morning and it had huge moguls built up on it. I wanted to stay and play on that run for the rest of the day, but the kids weren't having as much fun on it as i was.

8:30 private with 4 kids—two 9-year-olds, two 5-year-olds—three of whom had snowboarded before, one who hadn't. I mean, seriously, why? After that i got to take the level-5 group out again for a full day of riding good and bad snow and some bumps. I had two of the same kids from the day before and one new one.

Woke up with a sore throat. Thought about calling in sick, but went in. Opted to not get a lesson and was let go after the 10 o'clock lineup. Spent the rest of the day watching TV.

Sore throat worse. Thought about calling in sick again, but knew that i was needed for the school groups, so i went in. Sat in the Snow Stars room and read a book until lunch, had some soup, taught kids for one hour, then went home. THEN, after resting a bit, i went to play ultimate. Slow drive up in sleet and snow. We arrived late and couldn't overcome the points deficit, losing to the Orange team 32-21.

My cold had migrated from my throat to my nose. I opted out of lessons and was able to go home after morning line-up.

I was last out of the gate for morning lessons and got none. No afternoon lessons either. I wondered if the various Women's Marches cut into the ski business that day.

Scheduled for a morning level-2 adult, but no one showed (it was a warm, dreary, foggy, drizzly day). Taught an afternoon level-1 group of two kids—a brother and sister.

10:30 2-hour private with two level-1 teenagers. They picked it up pretty well. No afternoon lesson.

22232425262728

Wet, heavy, sleety snow. The school group cancelled. I taught one level-3 kid both morning and afternoon group lessons, plus a really talented 5-year-old for a 1-hour private in the middle of the day.

Winter league ultimate was cancelled due to wintry weather.

All-day level-5 with one girl. She wore herself out and stopped at 2:30.

Started the morning with a request private for an hour, then had a group lesson of 4 level-3 kids. That quickly split with Stefan and Molly—Stefan ending up with 6 greens (level 4), Molly with 4 Yellows (level 3), and me with one all-day orange (level 2). He didn't progress much.

Dead. Morning show-up pay. I zipped over to the halfpipe before morning line-up and got 5 or 6 runs through it. Katie and i went back over at lunch and got another few runs. Had one adult afternoon level 3.

293031

Taught one level-5 kid in the morning and 2 level-1 kids in the afternoon. During lunch i was going to go over to the halfpipe with a couple other instructors but the strap on my front heel binding snapped as we were setting off from the top of the Quantum-4 lift. It was a slow, achy heel-slide all the way down Limelight, but the repair shop had a replacement Ride strap, so i was back up and sliding in time for afternoon groups.

Two show-up pays and one hour of the school group. Took 'em up on Limelight. Big Bang was opened up in the afternoon and it was a mass of rolling mounds of freshly-blown snow, ungroomed!

Felt pretty good at ultimate that night (despite getting conked on the eyebrow by an errant warm-up pass by Josh). Got scored on early, but also threw a push-pass to Robbie for a goal.
