Drove down to Brattleboro for a doctor's appointment. Didn't accomplish much.

Morning level-1 group of a mother and daughter from Florida—their first time on snow—and they both did really well. Three kids in an afternoon level-1 lesson who didn't do as well.

Scheduled for all-day green-level lesson (level 4), but my only all-day kid moved up to the blue-level class, so i just had 2 for the morning. Spent the afternoon with one black-level kid. We rode bumps, trees, and the halfpipe!

8:30 2-person private—two brothers, one who was a bit better than the other, learning to turn. Then a morning group of one level-3 adult. No afternoon lesson.

No lessons. I went over to the halfpipe and met up with Megan and Dakoda, who were looping the pipe.

No morning lessons. Andrew, Katie, Wayne, Ian, and i went out for a run in the halfpipe, then many runs through many stretches of trees. Fun morning! Then in the afternoon, i had a level-1 adult who was linking turns down under the lift in half an hour.

Final game of winter league ulimate session 1. We lost to the Blue team in a long overtime point 33-32. For the first overtime, i was not on the field. The drive up there and back was about 2½ hours each way—snow, sleet, freezing rain non-stop. There was over a quarter-inch of ice on the front of my truck by the time i got home.

I drove over to Granville, NY and met up with my cousin Mary to see a stone bench that she's having carved. I took some photos around the stone plant. Then we went to a nice little restaurant/bar in Poultney, where i ran into my friend Pete, who was meeting up with other folks for an evening run.

I was seconds away from leaving after morning line-up, then got booked with both a 1:30 and 2:30 private. It was super cold and by 1:30, that private had cancelled, but the 2:30 still showed—a teenager who could turn great but could hardly stop.

Morning group. I initially had an all-day level-5 kid, but i switched him over to Landon's level-4 group, leaving me with just two half-day kids. No afternoon lesson.

All-day level 6 lesson of one kid who just wanted to ride trees. Fun day, but a workout. My back had been hurting the day before but felt okay today. By the end of the day, it was a little sore.

12131415161718

Back hurt. One all-day level-5 kid. Back hurt worse by the end of the day.

12131415161718

Back hurt even worse. Opted out of morning lessons, stuck around until school group, but then traded out of that as well. Back really hurt.

Managed to get an appointment for a massage. It was very thorough and my back felt better afterwards. Still hurt a little, but better.

12131415161718

Due to the back problems, i was given a couple of breaks today. Started off with a 2-hour private with a 5-year-old girl who wasn't great at turning yet, but could slide down the hill under the lift pretty well and had a good attitude. In the afternoon i was supposed to have two 1-hour privates, but ended up switching over to an afternoon group of one blue-level kid. Thankfully, my back survived that lesson and the day.

Again, got a couple breaks. One-hour private at 8:30, one-hour break, then a 2-hour private followed by two 1-hour privates.

Morning group lesson (i forgot what).

19202122232425

Morning group lesson, then i was off so that i could go to a chiropractic appointment in the afternoon. The session was interesting and my back definitely felt better afterwards, but it was sore again by evening.

19202122232425

One-hour private at 8:30, then a morning group of three level-2 women, which was joined by a couple about twenty minutes late. No afternoon lesson.

Winter league ultimate: first game of session 2. We're Purple again, and we beat the Orange team (after a mostly-close game) 41-32.

19202122232425

Level-1 lesson with two high school girls in the morning, then had them again in the afternoon with the addition of a chinese foreign-exchange student in the afternoon. My toes were killing me. I drove over to the Snowsports Shop on the Clock Tower side of the mountain to maybe buy a new pair of boots, but they didn't have any that i liked in my size.

Third lesson with the same two girls in the morning, then a 2-hour private with a 16-year-old boy who wasn't terribly interested in learning anything—just wanted a tour of the mountain. My toes hurt, but ibuprofin tempered the pain down to tolerable levels.

19202122232425

10:30 2-hour private lesson with a young woman. No afternoon lesson.

All-day level-5 group of 3 kids. Warm and slushy all day.

8:30 1-hour request private, then an all-day level-5 group again, but with only one girl from the day before. The conditions were tolerable in the morning, but absolutely the worst i can remember in the afternoon—rock-solid scraped-off ice all over every run. The student's father wanted to head home early, so we stopped at 2, which was fine with me.

Woke up to discover that one of my two sump-pumps had stopped working and my back basement had about 3 feet of water in it. Ugh. I taught one level-2 kid in the morning, then bailed out in the afternoon and bought a new sump-pump. After getting it going, i had a follow-up chiropractic appointment.

One-hour private in the morning. It was two kids, 6 and 7, who'd had Katie the day before but wanted a male instructor. I kept 'em happy. Went over to the halfpipe after that lesson but the pull wasn't running, so only got two laps in before returning to JG to teach my last 1-hour school group. After that, it was dead and i went home.

Winter league ultimate: we beat the white team 31-30 in overtime. I got a critical block with less than a minute to go to set up the game-tying score, but i'm pretty sure that i fouled the opposing player (brushed the side of his hand) as i went for the block. He didn't call it though and play continued before i had a chance to call it for him.

On the drive home, i went from 60mph to 0mph in about 3 seconds when Palmer, in the back seat, said "deer!" I could feel all the electronic gizmos in my Toyota doing all of their computery things and the truck stopped quickly and super straight and smooth. The deer ran away and we continued on.
