Andrew and i took out four level-3 kids and they all were about the same skill-set, so i went over to adults but Austin had taken the one adult lesson so i went home to rest my achy back.

Threw a couple passes away at winter league finals. We lost to the Pink team 36-24, just not clicking all game, but i did get to throw a hammer to Emily for a goal.

All-day blue/black group again. Same morning kid as the day before, and a small 9-year-old girl who taught me for the entire afternoon.

All-day blue group of one kid who was a non-stop stream of questions.

Another all-day blue group of one kid. Lots of bumps and trees. Warm carving snow today.

CS1, day two.

Two all-day girls and one half day, all in the 12-to-13-year-old range and the vague green-to-blue range.

Only a half-day kids group today one of the three girls that i had yesterday. Much colder and the surface was hard and scrapey, but i got to take a few runs through the halfpipe in the morning, as well as taking my student through a couple times.

Scrapey, cold day on the mountain today. I had one never-ever 7-year-old who picked it up pretty fast and we were able to take a few runs on the chairlift. He was the only snowboard lesson in the kids world and Austin was assigned to take him, but wanted to get some free riding in, so i took the lesson.

Started with a beginner kid, then folded her into Pete's group and taught an adult blue-level for the morning. Rejoined the yellow kids group in the afternoon and had two 7-year-old boys who kept asking to go on the chairlift but weren't really sliding all that well. Right at the end of the day i picked up one 14-year-old girl for a couple runs while Pete took the beginner that i'd had in the morning up the chairlift.

First game of winter league second session. I'm on a Black team again, but different people. Far fewer players signed up so we're going 4 male / 1 female instead of 4/2 as has always been in the past. I think i threw about eight incomplete passes, including two awful hammers, but finally hit a connection with a hammer in the waning seconds of the game, which we won against the White team 38-25.

I hardly slept all night and backlined at both kids and adults lineups. Managed to get out with no lesson and went to the health center to see about my painful toes, sleeplessness, and general fatigue. They took a bunch of blood.

Break week begins. I had the blue/black level—three kids, one of whom was much slower than the other two, but we managed it all day. He tried a little harder in the afternoon.

Two of the same three kids from the day before. We took a few runs in the halfpipe over the course of the day and the one slow one got noticably faster by midday.

Biggest all-day kid lesson of the year: five blue-levels. One of the other instructors, Marvin, shadowed the lesson with us. Weather got warm and snow got sticky in the afternoon.

New biggest all-day kid lesson of the year: seven blue-levels. They all stayed together pretty well—no not-listeners.

Late game at ultimate. I didn't throw any away, caught a goal, and we beat the Blue team 33-23.

And again, another new biggest all-day kid lesson of the year: eight red-levels. Eliza and i were the only two instructors there, with 8 reds, 2 yellows, and 3 greens. Bill took the greens in the morning, handing them off to Andrew for the afternoon.

20212223242526

Plenty of instructors today, and only 6 kids. I ended up with the green-level group—two kids, one who was only half-day. Snowed all day but not as much accumulation as predicted. Still, lotsa soft bumps on the hill.

All-day private lesson that was listed as one adult but turned out to be an 8-year-old (who i'd had in a beginner lesson on Thursday) and a 10-year-old—cousins—who were yellow-level. The lesson was at Jackson Gore and we started on the magic carpet but it's so flat that i took them up the lift, which worked out fine. Lunch was a hassle as the kids only had cash and the cafeteria only takes cards. I had to call their mom and she sent me a photo of her credit card.

Same two kids. They were tired and unenergetic in the morning, pepped up after a waffle break, but then got tired and grumpy in the afternoon. Trying lesson.

2728

Originally scheduled for kids groups, but one of the other instructors called in sick, so i taught a morning private with three siblings—13, 8, and 6. They were pretty good riders, just needed some tweaking. It was very cold with a strong wind, but they were good enough that we could ride on the bubble lift, so we didn't freeze. Nothing in the afternoon so went home.
