Tucson Uomo Donna Ultimate Tournament. I drove in to Tucson from where i'd camped only to find that the tournament wasn't at the fields that i thought it was at. I drove around to a few different fields unsuccessfully until the got the idea of finding the Ultimate Smoothies shop which was owned by two ultimate players. I found it and asked an employee if she had any idea where the ultimate tournament was and she suggested a park near the university. Sure enough, that's where it was.

I got up ridiculously early and started driving in a generally northwesterly direction. I drove into the upper corner of Arizona and then into Utah, where i drove on this road that went straight to a bluff, then super twistily right up it. By nightfall i was almost to Nevada and i parked and slept in my truck just outside Ely, Nevada on US 50, "The Loneliest Road in America".

The next morning i proceeded across the barren landscape up into Oregon. I discovered that while my truck rattles and vibrates at around 70MPH, it's smooth as silk when i peg it. (Of course it pegs at only about 90.)

You can't quite read it in the background, but that billboard says "Winnemucca: City of Paved Streets."

At about 6:00 that evening i pulled into Ashland, Oregon and had a REALLY GOOD cup of hot chocolate. I met ultimate players at a local brew pub and found a place to stay for the next two nights (at a woman named Matissa's place, who i ran into again at Burlington Winter League in 2012), while i was in town to play in the "Co-ed Cramp-up" ultimate tournament.

It rained all day Saturday, but it was still fun playing. I picked up with the Ashland B team.

I switched over to the Bend, Oregon team for the next day, as they had had some injuries and were short players. At about 3:00 PM i hopped into my truck and drove up to my friend Eric's house in Seattle, where i spent the next three days. I helped Eric get stuff for the kitchen he's remodeling, i visited with my friend Ned, i wandered around Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle, and i rode my unicycle up and down those Seattle hills, passing by Peter Buck's house (R.E.M.) and what Eric calles the Love Shack, i.e. the house of the former Kurt Cobain and the still here Courtney Love.
