Packed up the FJ and drove down to Albany airport, where i picked up Daniel, flying in from Houston. We then drove down to Shunk. |
|
Daniel and i biked over to the pipeline cut and walked along it for a bit. That afternoon i found out that my Ting video won first prize—a Ting swag-pack and a Galaxy S7 phone! |
Drove the FJ out onto the newly-mowed newly-purchased field. Spent a while mucking about picking blueberries and made jam. |
I like the fact that Shunk still has a phone booth. Paul, Casey, Lakota, and two of Casey's friends arrived from Chicago. My friend Wendy York arrived late that night. |
A bunch of us drove up to the Sharp Top overlook, then to the Hoagland Overlook. That night Daniel and i went out into the field to shoot stars, but it was a little cloudy, so we tried some shots while running with the flashlight or throwing it. |
Wendy and i drove down to Hughesville to play a round of disc golf. We stopped at Eder's Ice Cream on the way back. |
Wendy went back to NYC. |
The weather had been beautiful since i'd arrived, but it finally rained today. Big mighty thunderstorm. |
I rode my bike down to Shunk to get the pickup truck. Hauled some stuff out to the vegetative dump before the rains swept in that afternoon. |
Daniel and i fixed one of the bridges by sistering a new beam into one side. Then i built a ramp to access the new dock. I'd been living out in my Scamp since all the bedrooms were full. |
Paul and the 15-year-olds headed back to Chicago. |
Picked more blueberries. Caroline, Charlie, and Liz arrived late that night. |
And made more jam. |
More rain. Nina, Isaiah, Naima, Adina, and Java arrive.
|
I forged my way through the tall grasses along the stream on our new piece of property. Found a lot of junk in a pile. |
I took the tractor out to the field and mowed a path through the tall grass. |
Woke up earlyish, so went out on the lake in a kayak. Lots of dewy spiderwebs. Late that afternoon, we all went down to Rock Run to play in the stream. |
I drove Caroline and Daniel to the Philadelphia airport, and, following the GPS directions, accidentally missed the toll gates at the end of the Northeast Extension, so didn't pay a toll. Oops. I went to Mommy and Daddy's house after dropping off C and D and caught up on some Daily Shows. Late that afternoon, i drove down to center city and met Don, Sharon, and Ethan, who were staying in the downtown Marriott for the weekend, touring some colleges for Ethan. We walked down to South Street and had dinner—Ethan and i at Jim's Steaks, Don and Sharon at a pizza place—then we toured around a bit wile it got dark, then i went back to Mt. Airy. |
I went over to Kilian's Hardware in the morning, where Russell was working before the store opened. We chatted for a while then i hit the road once the store opened. Jason and Steven arrived at the lake. This is the only picture i took today. |
We went out and walked along the path that i'd cut through the field. That night i shot some more starry pics. |
Nina and family headed back to Providence. |
I took Steven for a canoe ride that evening. We had an interesting conversation about religion—him telling me that i had to pray and that i needed to be either Jewish or Christian. I explained that no, i didn't need to do/be either one. |
Mommy, Daddy, Steven, and i had lunch at the store. We saw some monarch butterflies on the way there. |
I saw the first glimmer of leaves changing color along the edge of the lake today. |
Jason and Steven drove back to Maryland and i drove back home to Vermont, after 28 days in Shunk. |
Got the Mini out, after a month sitting in the garage, and drove over to Lake Ninevah, then up to the farm to take some pictures. |
My free Samsung Galaxy S7 phone arrived today, the grand prize for winning the video competition from Ting. I took a drive in the Mini today to pick off a few more Moss Motoring Challenge points. Then i mowed the foot-high grass in my yard. |
Raked up the grass trimmings, then made Gramma's pickles. |
