Interesting day. I was supervising at the Jackson Gore base and was talking to the parents of a kid who was in a snowboard lesson when the mom asked me "Did you go to Concord Academy?" Turns out it was Jen Leader (now Jen Donovan), who was in the class below me at CA. She recognized the name on my nametag. That afternoon i left Okemo and stopped by the Shaw's supermarket in Ludlow, then headed home. When i got to the intersection of 103 and 100 North, there were two trucks in the right-turn lane. The car ahead of me went by the intersection and then a big Chevy Suburban pulled out from 100. I thought that he was just inching out so that he could see if the coast was clear, but no, he pulled out directly in front of me and proceeded to stop. I hit the brakes and locked up the tires, leaving a nice skid-mark on the road. As i skidded toward him i thought that maybe i'd stop in time, but nope. If he'd been about 8 inches further away, i would have missed him, but my bumper came to rest against the side of his truck, doing NO damage to his vehicle, but mashing in my bumper about 3 inches. Dingus. That's my skid mark and his truck driving away in the second picture. |
Finally, a snowfall! |
Sunrise on the way to work. |
The fire-pit outside of the Jackson Gore lodge. I was in on my day off to do some videotaping for the Women's Alpine Adventure groups. |
6-8 inches of snow overnight, then it snowed all day. My Trooper was covered when i left Okemo. I drove home and parked on the street since i couldn't get into my driveway. I'd been shoveling snow for about 5 minutes when a guy in a huge farm tractor drove by, stopped, backed up, then plowed out my whole driveway. I thanked him and gave him some homemade jelly. He was sitting up in the cab of the tractor with his infant child next to him and said that he'd been plowing people out all day and was having a blast. |
More snow overnight. Whoo! |
Seera in the yard. |
Break week begins. Super-busy day, but i got to be just a regular instructor and taught 7 hours of private lessons. |
Base quads. |
Ann, Emily, Lindley, and Lindley's boyfriend Kyle arrived from PA (late). |
Ann, Emily, Lindley, and Kyle went skiing at Okemo. I saw them briefly in the morning, but then was busy supervising the rest of the day. That evening we went out to Harry's restaurant for dinner. |
Lindley and Kyle were supposed to meet me in the morning so that we could take some runs together and i could get Lindley into a snowboard lesson, but they never found me so i finally caught up with them all at around noon as they were getting ready to leave. I was so spent from working all break week and being up late with company that i was almost falling asleep standing up by the end of the day. Above are the numbers of lessons the Ski + Ride School put out over the week. |
Spent my day off sleeping and feeling sick. |
Called in sick. |
Another day off, still feeling sick, but a little better. The dogs were now discovering that they could hop over the fence since the snow was so high. |
