Walked down the train tracks to the Wallingford cemetary.

1234567

Took this right under the Rt. 140 bridge over the Otter Creek.

1234567

Went to the Clarendon Gorge, then hiked south on the AT/LT to a vista overlooking the Rutland Airport.

1234567

Took the dogs up to the White Rocks picnic area, where Teco treed whatever this is. That night i went out to see The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which was OK, but not great. It seemed to try to tackle too much plot in too little time.

1234567

Hiked up Homer Stone brook trail.

1234567

Took the dogs over to Buttermilk Falls.

1234567

Rented a UHaul trailer and spent the day packing it full of a bunch of my crap.

Drove with the trailer down to Shunk and unloaded it into the barn. Curt had the key to the barn though. I pulled the Scamp out and then spent a while sorting
through all the junk mail and catalogs that had arrived at our PO box since i left in November. Geez!

Curt and i had the fun duty of removing a dead deer carcass from the lake, right next to our dock. Boy, did it stink. I was supposed to drop off the UHaul trailer in Canton, but after repeated phone calls getting no one, i finally gave up and dropped it off in Towanda on my way back to Vermont.

Walked with the dogs over to Elfin Lake.

Took the dogs over to the White Rocks picnic area.

Took the dogs down to Big Branch Brook and hiked up the north side of the brook. I folled a trail that veered away from the brook, then eventually cam back down to a spot where an old bridge had been. I knew that the trail on the south side of the brook ended at the bridge, so i wanted to cross. Seera followed my hopping from rock to rock across, but Teco wouldn't do it. I tried coaxing him for a while and he kept searching for a place to cross, but finally i decided to carry him across. But when i crossed back to the north side, Seera tried to follow again and missed a jump, falling into the current. She got swept downstream only about 5 feet or so before clinging to a rock, but then she couldn't get out and i couldn't reach her. After a few minutes she finally managed to claw her way up on to a rock and back to the south side. I picked up Teco and carried him across, but missed the last jump and went into the water up to my knees. Oh well, at least we were all across and could walk back down the easy trail to the truck.

Gloomy day. Took the dogs over to the cemetary.

15161718192021

Drove over to Spring Lake and hiked up to it, but it's mostly private land around it, so didn't walk much around it.

15161718192021

Went over to Okemo and drove up Mountain Road to the top, then hiked up to the fire tower. Seera followed me about halfway up the tower steps, but then decided not to go any further.

15161718192021

Hiked with the dogs out to Wallingford Pond. That night i went to see "Unleashed" at the West Rutland theater. I wanted to check out that theater to see if it was nicer than the theater in downtown Rutland, but nope, it was even crappier. Oh well, the movie was pretty cool anyway.

I hiked up the Homer Stone Brook trail up to Little Rock Pond on the AT/LT. Looking at the map beforehand, i guessed that it was about 2 miles up to the pond and that it'd probably take me about 2 hours to hike up and back. I left the parking area at about 10:00 exactly and got back to the truck at 11:58. On the way up i passed a sign that said "<-- Rt 7, 1.5 mi. - Little Rock Pond, .5 mi. -->" So my estimates were pretty damn close.

That afternoon i got word that i was invited to play on a team that was short on players at the White Mountain Open ultimate tournament in Hanover, NH.

I got up early and drove east on Rt. 4 to Hanover for the White Mountain Open ultimate tournament. Rt. 4 got really slow on the eastern half of Vermont and annoyed me. The team i picked up with turned out to be pretty fun, with one guy that i had played with in Bristol last summer. We started the first game with only 9 players on the team, but eventually we had 12. That still meant a lot of playing time, though.

we lost our first game to Flood (Hanover High alum?) 13-1, then lost to Brooklyn 13-2, then had a bye. Our third game was against the masters team that i'd tried to get onto and that my friend Brian Cleary was playing for. They beat us 13-11, so we felt better. Then we finally won our last game against QB (The Quebec B team) 13-7 i think. Brian invited me up to his house near St. Johnsbury for a cookout, but he left before we finished our last game and i wasn't sure how to get to his house, so i drove home, this time by going south on I-91 to VT-131 and into Ludlow and on to Wallingford.

I took the pic above during our bye. I don't know who it is.

Got up early and drove through the rain back to hanover. We played the Dartmouth Alumni team and beat them 13-6 or 7. We had 10 players and when we started the game, they only had 9, but by the time the game was over, they had about 15. After that we played the masters team again, and this time, they being fresh, we lost 13-2. Bleah. I stopped at a pizza place in Hanover for a couple of slices, then drove home and vegged out for the rest of the afternoon.

Under the Rt. 140 bridge.

22232425262728

Drove over to the AT/LT parking lot along Route 103 and this time decided to hike north from there instead of down across the Clarendon Gorge. Turned out to be a very pretty little path up through a narrow canyon and up to a vista where i could see down to my truck in the parking lot.

I'd been playing ultimate with a bunch of kids in the area and i played my last practice with them this evening. After playing we all went over to the Ben & Jerry's store and had ice cream.

Spent the day packing. In the late afternoon i drove up to Rutland and picked up a 6x12 trailer from UHaul and started loading it up.

293031

Finished loading the trailer and cleaned up the house. Drove out of Wallingford (heavy load for my Trooper) at Noon, stopped in Troy NY for some lunch at a supermarket, made it up to the lake by about 6:30 (stopped in Canton to go food shopping), and had the computer unpacked and online by 8:00.

When i arrived, i realized that i'd forgotton to remove items from ONE cupboard in the kitchen in Wallingford. Oh well, it was just flour and sugar.
