I drove up to the movie theater in downtown Rutland to see Team America: World Police. Wednesday night at 9:30... 2 other people in the theater.

Took the dogs up to the White Rocks Picnic Area and hiked over to the "ice beds". I like how Teco's ears are perked up in the wind.
I took the dogs on a hike along Otter Creek, which runs north through Wallingford. The green bridge is about a block from my house. The bridge where the dogs are posed is a few blocks north.
Installed the dog door in the back door. That afternoon i went to see The Incredibles, which was super fantastic and i want to work for Pixar, sigh.

First snowfall of the year! Today i drove over to Okemo and got my employee pass and also put my new Vermont license plates on my truck.

I was in the park near my house and a woman was out walking her dog. It was about a 60-70 lb dog that sorta looked like a boxer, but bigger. Short gray hair. And she had one of those inwardly-spiked choke collars on it. Anyway, my dogs ran over to her and she got scared and said "My dog doesn't get along with other dogs" and started pulling her dog back. Of course it's always dogs ON leashes that cause problems... Teco and her dog started goin' at it and she jumped right into the fray and started SCREAMING for help. I ran, calling Teco off, and when i was about 20 or 30 feet away, both of my dogs retreated to a safe distance. Another guy in the park reached her and she was OUT OF FREAKIN' CONTROL. She was crying and screaming and shaking so much she couldn't stand up. Her dog was rolling around in the grass, completely fine. Geez. I felt kinda helpless, so i stood there holding my dogs and the other guy helped her up and back to her car. 15 minutes later she was STILL crying, and she wasn't crying about herself, she was crying because her dog was hurt. Teco put a tooth mark in his head. Geez. Well, that put a damper on my day. I gave her my address and phone number and she drove off without saying anything. When i got home i checked Teco and discovered that he had a 1-inch gash in his neck, but it wasn't really bleeding. I called a vet and took him over, she cleaned it and stapled the skin back together. $24.

Opening day at Okemo. I drove up there and snowboarded for about half the day.
I drove over to Okemo to attend an orientation meeting for all new Okemo staff. That's a picture of the base lodge at night.
The dogs and i walked over to Elfin Lake, which is either a small lake or large pond on the edge of Wallingford. That evening the city of Wallingford animal control officer called and told me that i needed to keep my dogs on a leash. He said that there's a leash law. I didn't argue even though on the town of Wallingford website it clearly states that a dog has to be either on a leash or "under verbal control". But he seemed like a nice guy.
Snowboarded for a while at Okemo.
Took the dogs over to the White Rocks Picnic Area and hiked up to the Appalacian/Long Trail, then down along Bully Brook past a couple of waterfalls.

More snowboarding at Okemo. Then hiked through the mucky woods by the White Rocks picnic area until i reached the Ice Beds trail, then i looped back on drier stuff.

I bought 4 Michelle Shocked CDs from michelleshocked.com. I have all her CDs except "Texas Campfire Tapes", but these all have tons of extra tracks on them: "Texas Campfire Takes", "Short Sharp Shocked", "Captain Swing", "Arkansas Traveler", and "Good News" which was a pre-cursor to "Deep Natural".
Drove over to Okemo and got my uniform and name tags. Snowboarded for a bit too.
First day on the job at Okemo.
Taught my first lesson today. 2-hour morning upper-level lesson with 2 people.
Caught Seera in mid run-back-to-me.
Under the green bridge.
Taught a 1-hour private.

Thanksgiving. It rained pretty steadily today and i had a private lesson at Okemo. We were up near the top of the mountain when lightning struck and they closed all the lifts for about an hour. On our way back down to the base we saw a couple more lightning strikes (less than 1/2 mile away) and it started POURING rain. Ahhh, east coast snowboarding... I had 2 people in an afternoon beginner lesson.
Started in a training clinic, but it got interrupted so we could teach lessons. I had a group of 3 level 2 kids, then picked up 3 more from another group as the lesson went on. They wanted me back in the afternoon, but i got a 12:30 private and then a 1:30 private.
Got a little further in the morning clinic today, but then had to bail to teach a 2-hour private. Actually finished the afternoon clinic without it being interrupted. |
Taught an 8:30 private, then had the same kid for the morning lesson. he was linking turns by lunch, having never been on a board before! Late that afternoon after i got home Mommy and Daddy arrived for a visit. We went out to eat at Sal's, the local Italian restaurant, which is pretty much the only restaurant in the town. Good food though, and large portions. That evening we watched some of "Woodstock" on DVD.
Mommy, Daddy and i took the dogs for a walk, then Mommy and i walked all around Wallingford. When we got back, we all drove over to Okemo to see where i work, then had lunch in Ludlow. Then M & D hit the road back to Philly.
Hiked along Bully Brook.
