Jason Ross and i went down to Wise Fools Pub to see World Without Sundays, who i'd seen opening for DADA at the Pickwick Theater. It was a small venue and we waited though an uninteresting opening band, but WWS played a pretty good set. I took a bunch of pictures and sent 'em to their webmaster and talked to the band for a bit before and after their set. They did a great cover of the Queen/David Bowie song "Under Pressure" and if you like that song, you might like these guys. Check 'em out at worldwithoutsundays.com.

Sting was putting on a huge free show in Grant Park and megan had been trying to score some tickets but never did but she and her roommate Robyn were gonna go down there anyway. I joined them and we merged in with the throng of people heading to the park. Once we got to the gates we realized that yes, you had to have a ticket and they weren't letting anyone in with a camera (i had mine with me). Robyn decided to go home but Megan and i hung out for a while and we could've gotten tickets because people kept giving them away but i had my camera, so we decided to walk over by Buckingham Fountain and then we sat on some steps and listened to the concert. Couldn't see much but lights, but the sound was really good out there and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation, which we did, especially during the opening act Jonny Lang, who, ugh, was awful.

The Cubs were playing in the National League Championships at the time.

Played with Chronic at Regionals (Masters Division). I played Sectionals with The Stonecutters, but if your team doesn't make regionals and you're of masters age, you can jump to a masters team for regionals. Chronic made it to Nationals both the past two years but this year, hoo boy... You'd think that a masters team would have nothing but wily veteran good handlers, but the offense on this team was practically nonexistant. I played OK but got scored on 3 times. Needless to say, we lost every game, even to the other masters team from Chicago, all those old summer-leaguers. Geez. Not that i really cared, it was better to be playing than doing nothing all weekend.

Day 2 of regionals. Took some pics after we were eliminated, then went home and took the dogs out for a walk.

Just noticed when i posted this that the general shape of the first two pictures, of the leaf and Seera, kinda match.

Christopher Smith arrived in town today and that evening he and i went downtown for pizza, then met up with Jason Ross at the Chicago Cultural Center to see the 1925 silent classic Nosferatu with live accompinament by The Alloy Orchestra. (Highly recommend seeing them if they come to your town.) The show was packed but we found three seats up front on one side, right behind the band.

After that, Jason went home and Chris and i took the L up to the club Martyrs, where DADA was playing that night (the show was originally scheduled to be at Park West, but got moved). We got there after the opening band was done and about 10 minutes before DADA came on. Good timing.

DADA's show at Martyr's ripped it up. The stage was really wide, so all of us there were only about 0-15 feet away, which was a big change from the last 3 times i've seen the boys, all at old theaters. And they really extended and noodled around with almost all of the songs, very cool. So here we go with the setlist. Pretty much the same record we've all been hearing for the past few months, but what a damn fine record it is.

Dim
Playboy In Outerspace
Surround
A Trip With My Dad
Feet To The Sun
Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
Sick In Santorini
Heaven And Nowhere
Ask The Dust
Morning Sickness (Joie solo on acoustic while Phil and Mike take a break)
It's All Mine (no guitar, Mr. Gurley still resting up)
Feel Me Don't You
Mary Sunshine Rain
Moon
Posters
Dizz Knee land
------------------
It's Cool Dude (A Butterfly Jones song with Phil the drummer on solo acoustic guitar!)
Bob The Drummer
Baby Really Loves Me
Dorina

I hung out a little after it was over and passed out my pocketful of lighters. Hope whoever got one digs it. Then we ran into Phil on our way out and chatted with him for a couple minutes next to the tour bus. Very nice guy. All in all a great night, even though i didn't get a chance to talk to the 2 very attractive women who ended up right in front of me for the whole encore, ah well, loserdom...

I bought Joie Calio's CD "The Complications of Glitter" and DADA's "Live: Official Bootleg Volume 1" from Nick, the merch. guy, and picked up a copy of Butterfly Jones for Chris. When i cracked open the live dada cd i was amazed to find MY NAME in the credits!!! Holy crap, how'd i do that?!??!?
