Drove to work. Shuttled Caroline & Charlie around at lunch. My van was used as a mobile recording studio for the last 17 Reasons Why show at the Fat Chance. Quincy Adams set up his recording equipment in the van, which was parked out in front of the bar. I still haven't received a copy of this show though... I got home at 2:00 AM.

Got up early and drove up to Santa Fe for the Santa Fe Savage Seven at 7000 Feet Ultimate Tournament. Albuquerque split into two teams on Saturday morning and as usual i got on the leftovers team. Basically a bunch of guys wanted to play with each other, and everyone else was relegated to the other team. My team was Mike Daniels, Joe Antone, James Barry, George Bonet, Chip Bean, Lee Ann Ortiz, Diana Pinkston, and Megan McBain. We called ourselves the Fffff Hucking Overheads, and proceeded to perform rather well, even if we didn't throw a lot of overheads. In a savage seven tournament, you can have up to nine players on your team, but only seven can play in each game, no subs. The games are only to seven though, so it's not too terrible, but running around at 7,000 feet certainly can be felt. I sat out the first game and my teammates beat Los Alamos 7-2. Then we beat Colorado Springs 7-2. In the next game Las Cruces-II went up 2-0 on us, then we proceeded to rattle off 33 unanswered points. Yes, that's correct, THIRTY THREE. We beat Las Cruces-II 7-2, then Santa Fe-I 7-0, then Las Cruces-I 7-0, then Santa Fe-II 7-0, and finally we went up 5-0 on the supposedly better other Albuquerque team. Unfortunately they answered back and tied it up 5-5, then we traded points until we won 7-6. Whew! The party was cool and i slept in my van.

Mike, Chip, and Lee Ann didn't come back up, and we added Rod Klein and Steve Trammel. We beat Phoenix 7-2, then Los Alamos in the quarters 7-3, then Las Cruces-II in the semis 7-1, and then.... The finals were against the dreaded other Albuquerque team, who had beaten Phoenix in the semis 7-0. We decided that we would play the finals to seven, win by two, NO CAP. (i.e. keep playing until one team was up by two, that being 8-6, 11-9, 22-20, whatever.) James Barry (Earlhamite ultimate player now living in ABQ going to UNM) really got on my case for allowing us to play under this rule, saying that it would only hurt us and we would lose. I said, "don't worry, we're going to win 7-5." Need i mention that yes indeed we won, and the final score was 7-5? So for the weekend we went 77-22. Not bad. I felt pretty good. After the final there was the traditional Naked Ultimate game (i didn't participate) then the winning team got to huck discs at a piñata in the shape of batman and everyone dove under it for the candy whenever any flying piece of plastic took off a body part. I had the first solid hit in its chest, but no candy fell. I went 5 for 9 hitting it, but didn't dismember it much. My teammate Joe stepped up to the line, sized up the throw, stepped back, took his shorts and underwear off, stepped up and ripped a leg off with a nice clean backhand throw. The crowd went wild.

13141516171819

Flew to Chicago (via Dallas) and got to Oak Park, where we rehearsed for Paul & Wendy's wedding in the park across the street from their house. Had dinner with all the family.

13141516171819

Had brunch at the hotel. Mommy called Jason and Ian and i at varous times "gauche" and "uncouth". Probably because Ian showed up for brunch barefoot. After that we all drove out to the wedding. I had to walk down the aisle with all of my bros and sisses and stand up there while the ceremony took place and i hated every minute of being there. The reception was better, partly because i quickly shed the tux in favor of a T-shirt.
